| April 2004
April is a big month for many of us. As the Earth wakes up, so do we, turning our faces towards the warmth of the spring sun, dreaming dreams of new opportunities taken, goals achieved, and time well spent in this busy season. Soapnuts all over the world are thinking “spring”, planting and tending gardens, celebrating various holidays, soaping their summer fragrances, planning their farmer’s market displays…taking advantage of the warmer weather and the natural cycle of birth and growth. We at In a Nutshell would like
to encourage you to invest in yourself this season.
Take time out and consider what is really important to you, and
write it down. Sometimes by writing
things down, we are able to better prioritize, making some sense out of the
swirl of activity in our minds. Make
a list of five things that you want to focus on in your life, and place them in
order of importance to you at this time. These can be practical items, such as giving up smoking, or
getting in shape, or making a business plan.
Or, they can be purely spiritually gratifying, like smiling at everyone
you meet during the day, or joining the Soapnuts Share a Smile program
(contact me for more info!!), or starting a journal of your innermost thoughts
and feelings. Next, simply write
down three things that you can do to attain each of these goals.
That’s it- just three steps that will bring you closer to these things
that are so important to you. Make
a commitment to look over your list daily, and to check off those steps that you
have taken, to reassess things as necessary, and to keep track of what you are
doing, no matter how intangible it may seem.
By the time the new issue of In a Nutshell hits the
newsstand, you will be amazed at what you have been able to accomplish, as your
dreams wake up and begin to grow along with the plants in your garden!
You can pat yourself on the back, or, better yet, treat yourself to a
mini spa with some of your favorite products! We are really excited about this issue and
what it has to offer you. First of all, friendship, as you learn more about Kae Catalano, a supplier who is always ready to share her advice and experiences with the list, as well as Duane, a Nut who is so generous with us, sharing both his soaping ideas and expertise and his personal life, sometimes giving us the only man’s eye view in a sea of womanhood! Secondly, an inside scoop on the allure of a Soapnut Swap. Those of you who have participated in swaps on the list know how addicting they can be, as you share so much with your fellow swappers…soaps, yes, but also recipes, thoughts, ideas, dreams, and a little bit of each person who participates. Frances Schuff, a veteran swapper, shares her thoughts on swaps in her article. I know that I am always overjoyed when I see her name in the list of participants, as her generosity and talent combine to make something memorable every time! And what else? How about a look inside the sometimes perplexing world of ingredients and labeling? Or a look at another gentle, healing plant that is most likely in your back yard or in a deserted lot near you?
